Sad sock...

What's the deal with socks? Trying to keep a pair of socks together is like trying to put the positive ends of two magnets together. No way is that going to happen! Somehow in the laundering process one of them always manages to find a way to escape it's partner. I'll save all of you Martha Stewart types from posting a comment telling me 'You can pin them together before they go into the washer so it's never a problem.' but I don't like doing laundry so mine is lucky to get sorted much less organized before it gets washed!

So goes my tale this day...

I have many regular old socks that routinely get lost and it's no big deal. But I do have a couple of pair (or is it a couple of pairs?) of socks that I REALLY, REALLY like. They were pricey socks, hence the reason I only have two pair. I bought them at a running store even though I don't run. They are uniquely made to fit right and left feet so they are labeled with an "L" or "R" so you don't get confused. I love that. They fit so well, never slip down, offer great support and don't get stinky easily... I mean how could you not LOVE these socks?!

I have shelves in my closet and I've had this one lonely favorite sock sitting on my shelf for about A YEAR now just patiently waiting for the return of it's mate.
Honestly, other than the occasional college visitor, I am the only one doing laundry here and it's just for two people. The missing sock HAS to show up sometime, somewhere, don't you think? I wasn't giving up hope.
LAST WEEK I decided I seriously needed to clean out my closet. As I gazed upon my lonely "L" sock... I concluded that a year was long enough to wait for "R" to return and it was a lost cause. I hesitantly put my lovely, non-stinky, perfect "L" into the bag labeled, 'You will NEVER, EVER wear these again' destined for the trash.
TODAY... I'm putting away a freshly washed batch of clothes and I open my hubby's drawer and what do you suppose is laying right on top? Yep...it's "R" my prodigal sock returned home at last after nearly a year!! Upon questioning my aforementioned husband about why MY sock was in HIS drawer, he said he pulled out an article of clothing that he rarely wears and the sock was hiding inside. I'm not sure WHEN this happened but I'm not asking and am going to pretend it was within the last couple of days so I don't SCREAM since I now know that my "L" and "R" will NEVER be reunited.
Maybe 'Martha's' right... for my SPECIAL socks, I may take the time to pin them together from now on. sniff, sniff
